Guide
Buying, selling and trading a luxury watch in Miami
A short, practical guide from The Heure Society: what to look at when you buy a pre-owned luxury watch, how selling or trading works, and what to expect when you work with a dealer in Miami.
Buying a pre-owned luxury watch
A good purchase starts with the piece and its history. Ask for the exact reference, the year and the condition, and look at clear photos of the dial, the case, the case back and the clasp.
- Box and papers: the original box, warranty card and papers add confidence and usually value. A complete set is worth more than the watch alone.
- Condition and polishing: case edges and lugs show how much a watch has been polished. Less polishing generally keeps more value.
- Service history: a recent service from the brand or a qualified watchmaker is a good sign, and an old one is worth factoring into the price.
- Serial number and reference: the dealer should be able to show them and explain how the piece was authenticated.
- Return and warranty policy: ask what happens after the sale, in writing.
Viewing a watch in person
Photos help, but a watch is best judged on the wrist. At The Heure Society pieces are shown by appointment at our office in downtown Miami, at 169 E Flagler St, Suite 1122. You can also book a video call.
Selling your watch
To get an offer you only need a few details: brand, model, reference, year, condition, whether you have the box and papers, and clear photos. Send them from our sell page and a specialist reviews the request and replies with a clear offer.
If you agree, the watch is authenticated in person and payment is made once it has been verified. Having the original box, papers and service documents usually improves the offer.
Trading one watch for another
If you would rather change your watch than sell it, tell us which piece you would like in exchange. We value your watch and the one you want, and the difference is settled in a single transaction.
Consignment
With consignment we sell the watch for you, and you receive the agreed amount when it sells. It suits pieces you would like to sell at a higher price and are willing to wait for. Terms are written in a consignment agreement before the watch is listed.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know a pre-owned watch is authentic?
Ask the dealer how the piece was authenticated, and check the reference, serial number, movement and papers. At The Heure Society every piece is verified in person and listed with its reference, size, year and set.
Does the box and papers matter?
Yes. A complete set, with the original box, warranty card and papers, gives more confidence and usually a better price when you sell.
